History of company

Elphick Bros Plastering Ltd was established in 1946 by current managing director Kevin Elphick's grandfather, Frederick. He founded the company with his brother having learned his trade from his father-in-law, rendering the features on Eastbourne's Carpet Gardens.

In the 1950s Frederick's two sons, Frank and Tony Elphick, joined the company, and 1964 saw the company undertake its first labour and materials contract for Walter Llewellyn & Sons (now ROK Ltd) at Green Street Farm Estate.

Frederick Elphick retired in 1968 and cousin Derek Elphick and a close friend Ron Moon joined the company, forming a quartet of directors along with Tony and Frank. Tony's wife Jill became the company secretary, doing all the administration and book-keeping work.

The company grew further and had to move to it's current premises in 1976 to Milton Garage, Milton Road. In 1977 Melvin Breach joined the company as an apprentice, as did Duncan Durrant in 1985.

Kevin Elphick joined the company in 1987 as company surveyor after training as a professional quantity surveyor with a local practice in Eastbourne. 1996 saw Tony and Jill Elphick retire and Kevin took over as managing director with Melvin Breach and Duncan Durrant as contracts directors.

Sadly in 1999 Frederick Elphick died, but up to his death, he showed a great deal of interest in the success of the company and generously gave his advice on plastering matters.
